20160123-Eastern Screech Owl
Thanks to the Northeast Indiana Veterinary Emergency and Specialy Services for taking this bird in! An unknown citizen found this beautiful Eastern Screech Owl in the road and dropped it off at the Emergency Animal Clinic in Fort Wayne. Upon initial examination, the little guy was showing some neurological problems- a slow, consistent head movement that was consistent with head trauma. Fortunately he did not have any eye injury which is so common with head trauma. He was placed in a small ICU cage for monitoring. He began eating well, but the abnormal head movement continued. He was then placed in a small flight pen. Update 3/01/2016 01232016-easo-1 Flies extremely well and has no difficulty identifying perches and landing. Acts like he/she is ready to go home. Update 2/19/1016 He is moving around the small flight pen well and is no longer showing any neurological signs. He will be moved to a large flight pen so we can observe his ability to fly and so he can regain his strength. Update 3/3/2016 01232016-ESOW This little guy is ready to go! Since we do not know exactly where he came from, we can release him anywhere in Allen County! If you have a screen owl friendly place you would like him released, please contact us!
