20200620-Great Horned Owl-1

Went to an area near Huntertown to look for a GHOW that was down and in the middle of someone’s front yard.  When I arrived, the bird was being dive bombed by Starlings.  I walked over and picked him up from behind.  There was blood in his mouth and some damage to his left eye, as noticed in the picture below.  The caller appeared and I showed her and her daughter the bird.  As I was leaving the homeowner came out and thought there was an accident.  We explained to him about the bird and showed it to him as well before I left for ICU.  Both people were handed our brochures.  They were pleased that we came quickly and thanked us for the pamphlets.   Once the bird was back and being triaged, it was determined he was most likely hit.  He had a damaged left eye, blood in the mouth and a damaged right wing.   As always, we hope and pray that these creatures, God’s creatures and that they can get back to the wild.  Prayers for this little guy to get better.   Bill Oberg 06/20/2020 This young owl will be taken for xrays to confirm its wing injury. It has an eye injury that is being treated for pain. It is being given oral pain medication and an antibiotic. It was thin and dehydrated so we gave it some oral glucose and subcutaneous fluids for hydration.  06/29/2020 Thankfully there was no broken bones but we have concern about its ability to see.
