History

On August 7, 2017 Bob received a call from a gentleman in Auburn about what he thought might be a raptor under his truck.  The bird had been there for most of the previous day; however, upon arriving at the residence, Bob found the original caller's neighbor coralling the bird with a broom in the man's backyard. The bird was an immature Cooper's hawk with an injured wing.  After verbal negotiations with the hawk failed, Bob used his trusty minnow net to secure it.  A brief examination showed fair weight and an injured wing.  He delivered the hawk to Doctor Pat with a completed record card. 08/07/2017 Upon initial examination by our avian veterinarian, the Cooper's hawk was quiet, alert and responsive.   Cooper's hawks are extremely active and nervous birds, so when one is quiet we know something is wrong.   His right elbow was slightly swollen, but no other abnormalities were noted on physical exam.   Radiographs did not reveal any fractures.   At this time his prognosis for return to the wild is good.   08/17/2017 He is doing well and is in a flight pen with three other Cooper's hawks.  Hopefully he will be released soon!
