Maverick

Maverick came to us in the spring of 2023 as a baby. He was one of 27 kestrels we got in that spring. Unfortunately, we discovered he had a previously broken wing injury that had healed incorrectly. After some flight testing, we realized he would not be able to fly properly to hunt in the wild. He went to live with a pair of our volunteers for several months where he received daily training. Part of his training included trips to PetSmart, to get used to being around people and noise, where he was almost offered a job catching loose crickets. 

Maverick is a very smart bird who picked up his training very quickly. He is friendly and likes to talk to anyone who walks past his aviary.
