Akron Zoo - 01252017 Eastern Screech Owl,

01252017-ESOW medical exam by our avian veterinarian: This beautiful red-phase Eastern Screech Owl was quite lethargic on presentation. It had a small laceration on its right shoulder, a fractured right radius, bruising on its right third eyelid and a broken pelvis.  The broken radius will heal well with the ulna acting as a splint. Only time will tell if the pelvis heals well enough for this little owl to be released. Please considering donating to help cover the cost of this beautiful bird's care. 3-38-2017: Unfortunately this little guy healed without good extension in his right elbow which makes him non-releasable.  He is in training on the glove to be placed as an education bird.
