20210429-Great Horned Owl-1

A Good Samaritan brought a Great Horned Owl to Soarin’ Hawk. The owl would not fly and was being attacked by crows. The Good Samaritan named the owl, Ronald, Ronnie for short.   I examined the bird and his right elbow looked bruised, was missing feathers and was swollen. Otherwise, the owl seemed to be in great shape. X-rays were taken and they showed a break to one of the bones in his wing - the radius. It is a clean break and the ulna was not broken only the radius. The good news is that the owl will not need to have the break pinned. We will wrap the wing to immobilize it so it can heal.   This owl will stay with us until his wing has healed and he should be able to be released back where he belongs out in the wild.   Thank you to the Good Samaritan for bring this owl to us. 05/24/21 This owl has a broken right radius , due to the position of the break it was felt it was best to not put a pin in the fracture. A recent xray showed the beginning of a callus formation , this is a very good sign 06/04/21 This owl continues to recover
