20200923-Great Horned Owl-1

So, call on a confined Great Horned in Huntington. When I arrive, I find out he’s on the other side of a 5 foot barbed wire fence under a laundry basket. Callers indicated they chased him back and forth from one side of the fence to the other before cornering it by standing on both side of the fence and blocking it. Let me tell you, one of the most interesting areas to go retrieve it. I had to go a block or so back to near their house, move a barbed wire gate and trek, and I mean trek thru heavy underbrush, bramble and thick vines to go get the owl from under the basket, put him in our carrier, hand it to these folks over the fence and trek back. Very interesting, especially since I was wearing shorts.   Beautiful bird. No apparent injuries of note. I took him back to ICU and he was triaged by Diana, but not before Jillian and Gigi helped me get rid of a ton of flat flies. So far its doing well. Brochures were handed out to the folks and they were walked thru how to find the bird on our web site. They want it released back in their area.   As always we hope and pray these creatures that God created can re-acclaimate back to nature. Prayers for you little guy.   Bill Oberg 09/25/2020 Further examination revealed that this owl has corneal ulcers in both eyes. It is being treated for this. It seems to be affecting it's ability to see. Hopefully his vision will return 10/04/2020 This owl is eating well on its own so it has been moved to our rehabilitation facility
