20200628-Broad Winged Hawk-1

Went over a mile or so from our house and picked up this baby Broad Winged Hawk. It had apparently fallen from its nest, which was nowhere to be seen…this area was heavily forested, with trees and no branches for at least some 30 feet up. We took the little guy back to ICU, checked him out and determined then that he was ok….he was eating, standing and bright and alert.   The decision was made not to return him to the area found, due to no visible sign of a nest, but to send him to Adam as a falconers bird.   The bird is going in for xrays tomorrow, just to be thorough.   As always we hope and pray these guys can be returned to mother nature. We’re praying for you little guy.   Suz Hansen/ Bill Oberg 06/30/2020 This juvenile broad wing hawk has been moved to a falconers home 07/02/2020 The falconer noticed this young hawk had a limp. He brought it back to us we had an xray performed. It was discovered to have a hair line fracture of its right tibiatarsus. The leg was casted and the bird was sent to a volunteers home to recuperate . the concern with a bird this young is that it will "imprint" on humans and begin to associate humans with food and not be afraid of us. It needs to be kept isolated until its leg heals 09/06/2020 This hawks is recovered from its leg fracture and has been moved to our rehabilitation facility
