20200618-Barred Owl-1

Wabash County residents called Soarinhawk on 6/18 to report this Barred owl on the ground. Upon arrival it was identified as a baby. The Owl was taken to Soarinhawk’s ICU facility where it was found to have a fracture on it's right wing at mid-shaft as well as a fractured beak at the tip. The owl was treated and its wing was wrapped to immobilize the fractured area. The owl will be taken to our Veterinarian to identify if  further treatments are necessary. Thank you! Kim Nedberg 06/19/2020 The xrays revealed a fracture of the radius and ulna. It was determined it could be pinned to stabilize both bones. This is a difficult fracture because as the bones heal they can fuse together creating an inability for the bird to fly. We will start physical therapy very quickly on this bird to attempt to keep this fusion from happening 06/29/2020 We are still treating this young owl for pain and continue physical therapy. It is supposed to have its pins removed this week 07/19/2020 This owls pins were successfully removed. We are continuing with physical therapy and pain medication 08/03/2020 This young owl has been moved to our rehabilitation facility for observation
