20200531-Eastern Screech Owl-1

On Sunday morning May 31st, Lynn sent out a text looking for someone to travel to Jellystone Park in Pierceton, IN for a juvenile screech owl. The security guard Dustin, had been alerted by guests that they had come across him sitting in the road at a busy intersection. Lyn had suggested to see if he could find a nest and possibly return him to it, but there was none around. Dustin secured him in a box and contacted several agencies and finally got referred to us. Once I got there, I looked him over but found not visible injuries; he was alert and vocal. I transported him to ICU and met with Kim Westfall for further assessment. He was able to fly, but not too well, weight was good and was found to have no injuries. She could not assess if the bird was a male or female. 06/02/2020 This appears to be a healthy young eastern screech owl. We will keep it with our other Eastern screech owls until it becomes old enough to be released 06/06/2020 This owlet continues to do well 06/14/2020 This owlet has been moved to our rehabilitation facility with the other owlet. It will stay there until it is old enough to be released 07/19/2020 This owl's condition remains the same
