20200531-American Kestrel-1

Late on Sunday evening a call went out to rescue a Kestrel that had been set upon by some cats and dogs. We had the option of picking the bird up in the morning as it was already 7:45 but we decided to go and pick her up that night. We arrived to find a female baby kestrel in a cat carrier. Caller Rhonda said she came out to the yard to find this little thing surrouned by their cat and dogs. She was on her back, talons up, ready for a fight. Rhonda got all the animals out of the way and saved the little guy. The bird appeared to be ok so we brought her home and checked her out further.   One of our ICU leads Kim, said she wanted to take a look at her to check him out further as we indicated the bird was rather quiet for a kestrel. We went out to ICU late in the evening on Sunday. The baby Kestrel checked out fine and is now resting comfortably at our ICU.   As always we pray that these guys all survive to be able to return to the wild. We will care for it until it is old enough to be released 06/06/2020 Unfortunately this kestrel has started favoring her left leg. It was decided to start physical therapy and to start her on medication for pain 06/14/2020 This Kestrel continues treatment 06/29/2020 We have seen great improvement in this kestrel, it has been moved to our rehabilitation facility with the other orphaned kestrels
