20200518-Red Tail Hawk-1

Arrived at the callers house and went into their backyard. The Redtail was perching on a pile of logs. Suz and I approached her from two sides and she managed to fly through us into the neighbors yard. We encircled her again from two sides and were able to corner her and eventually round her up. This was definitely a two person job due to the partial flight ability of this bird. I want to thank my wife, Suz for assisting-great job.   We took her back to ICU for evaluation.   We pray for these birds quick recovery and release. We love seeing these creatures of God make it back to nature.   Thanks, Bill Oberg and Suz Hansen. 05/19/20 There was no obvious injury to this female hawk but she will be examined and have an xray by our vet for confirmation. We are giving her medication for pain . She has a brood patch so we hope to be able to reunite her with her nest quickly 05/22/2020 The xrays of this hawk discovered that she had been shot by a pellet gun twice. We are treating her  for pain and observing  her feces to see if she passes the pellet. The DNR has been notified and will investigate 06/06/2020 This hawk has been moved to our rehabilitation facility to begin creance training. Creance training is when a bird is tethered to specific length of line and allowed to fly . The creance team observes its flight and determines if it is ready to be released or needs more flight conditioning
