History

11/07/2019 - This owl was found to be healthy and was released!

This afternoon Soarin’ Hawk received a rescue call, for an owl in a chimney. A nuisance wildlife company had also been called. Upon my arrival at West Squawbuck Rd, Columbia City, A nuisance wildlife technician was attempting to coax the bird out from the top of the chimney, it was about 15 to 20 feet from the top to a smoke shelf where the owl was sitting. After several attempts the home owner and the technician decided to remove the wood burner insert and try a rescue from the fireplace. As soon as the wood stove was moved away, a Eastern Screech Owl flew into the home and I was able to capture it. The owl flew very well and appeared not to be injured. It was very active and had a keel of 4. The owl was transported to our ICU where it was triaged. The homeowner provided photos of the rescue.  A release is pending Dr. Funnels assessment.   11/03/19 This owl is very feisty. He had no obvious injuries . He flew around the treatment room extremely well. He was a challenge to catch and evaluate. We are waiting for the final examination and x-ray results by our veterinarian.
