20191003-Osprey - 1
Via volunteer Susan: So, as usual, I was on my way from working out to go get coffee and who but my best friend Lynne calls. She indicated there was an osprey in a box in Berne. As always I said sure, what the heck. Drove down to meet the gentleman at a McDonald's and we proceeded to drive several more miles to his house on the end of a block. The bird, as you can see from the picture, was kept in this box overnight, with a shovel across the top to prevent it from getting out. Gorgeous bird. I covered it with a large towel and as I went to reach for it, it flipped the towel off and turned upside down to face me and put its talons in both of my gloves. I was able to cover it again with the towel and it released the gloves. This is one of the strongest birds that i have rescued. We put him in the box, wings partially sticking out and started back to Pine Valley. On the way back, since the box was not shut tight due to the wings sticking out, he tried to get out. I stopped, repositioned his wings and sealed the box on top with some heavier objects. Dr. Pat was very busy and I left him in the box for them to look at later. As always I pray for his well being and hope he makes it. 10/04/19 After our veterinarian's assessment, This bird was discover to have no broken bones but a possible puncture wound in its left wing at the tip of the wing. There was also severe bruising 10/06/19 Treatment for infection and pain continues for this Osprey. It hasn't started eating on its own, so it is being hand fedre bruising in this area. It is being treated with pain medication .
