History

On July 1st, Soarin' Hawk got a call about a screech owl that hit a ceiling fan in a gentleman's barn.  He said that the nest was outside, and there were a family of screech owls in a nest.  The babies were fledging and one of them flew into the barn.  He was not flying after hitting the fan, so volunteer Vicki picked him up and took him to ICU where he was assessed. Initial exam by our avian veterinarian:  This little grey eastern screech owl was quiet but standing.  His left wing had been wrapped by the person who did the intake and initial evaluation yesterday because his wing was drooping.  Radiographs revealed a fractured collar bone.  Fortunately this bone typically heals well if kept immobile with the wing on the affected side wrapped.  No other problems were found.  He is being treated with a pain reliever/anti-inflammatory medicine. Bloodwork results are pending.  His prognosis is good for release back into the wild!   07/25/2018 This bird will have his body wrapped removed this week and his collarbone rechecked.  If it is stable enough he will be moved to the pens. 10/03/2018 This bird is now at our rehabilitation pens.
