20171221-Red-tailed Hawk

A gentleman called Soarin' Hawk about a hawk on the side of the road at Highway 16 and 500 North in Huntington.  He picked it up and transferred the bird to one of our volunteers who met him in Roanoke.  The bird was then taken to Dr. Funnell for assessment.  The bird appeared to have an injury to his crop. 02/17/2018 This bird had a ruptured crop as well as other minor abrasions. Fortunately, Dr. Pat was able to repair the crop. The injury healed well. This bird was taken out to the pens and creance flying was going to be started when one of the volunteers noticed he was breathing hard and panting.  The bird immediately came back to ICU. Blood was drawn for additional testing and no abnormalities were found.  Another center is reviewing all diagnostics and will give us advice on how to proceed. 03/25/2018 Although he recovered quickly from his ruptured crop, he has been battling respiratory problems of which the underlying cause is still undetermined.  He was just moved to an outdoor flight pen from ICU.  His prognosis for release is guarded.
