20170527-Red-tailed Hawk

A couple of friends were walking downtown in Fort Wayne when they noticed two Peregrine Falcons chasing a large bird. They continued walking and all the sudden the large bird fell from the sky smacking the concrete with a loud thud. One of the friends ran over and picked up the large bird since he landed in the street. The bird was unconscious but the gentleman could feel a slowed heart beat.  Within no time he regained consciousness and his heart rate increased. The friends contacted Soarin Hawk and I was dispatched for a rescue. As I was approaching the intersection, I could see one of the gentlemen was holding a gorgeously light colored juvenile Red-tailed Hawk. The Red-tail was very alert and feisty. I could not find any obvious injuries on the initial field exam. So off to see Dr. Funnell.  Dr. Funnell also could not find any injuries so she will do Radiographs on  Tuesday!     Initial examination: This very pale colored Red Tail Hawk was alert but subdued. No injuries were found on exam.  He was placed in an outside pen by himself so we can monitor his food intake.  He will be radiographed after Memorial Day
