History

Examination by our avian veterinarian: The Screech Owl was lethargic and would not open his eyes.  His weight was only fair.  He had a penetrating injury to his right eye, as evidenced by the blood and air inside his eye.  He will be started on pain medicine and antibiotics. His prognosis is guarded.  Most cat bites carry a very high rate of infection.  There is high probability there are more puncture wounds hidden among the feathers. Radiographs will be taken later. 3-23-2017: He is flying well and has good vision in his injured eye.  He should be released back into the wild soon!
